SWOT Analysis – Pakistan Cricket Team 2019

Sportzhub analyses the Pakistan team participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Read to find out what can be expected from this highly unpredictable side.

Strengths

Weaknesses

Match Winners aplenty: Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam all 3 of them are averaging more than 50 post the CWC 2015. While Harris Sohail, Hafeez, Asif Ali and Shoaib Malik all can be match winners on their day. Recently they became the first team to score 340 plus in 3 consecutive matches in England.

All-Round Depth: Pakistan have 3 proper all-rounders in Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim and Hafeez. All of them can contribute with bat and ball which gives variety and depth while bowling and batting.

Poor form: Pakistan has played 15 matches this year and has managed to win only 2 of them. In their last 11 ODIs, they have not won a single match (Lost 10, NR 1). Having lost 12 matches in total this year, which is the most by any team, they certainly are carrying a slump in their form.

Bowling Worries: For a team renowned for their bowling Pakistan teams bowling average in 2019 is 60.4; It is the 2nd worst only after Scotland. The “Green Shirts” bowlers need to rediscover their form quickly.

Opportunities

Threats

Mohammad Amir: Since Champions Trophy triumph Amir has struggled picking up just 5 wickets at an average of above 90 which is the worst by any bowler. The left arm seamer was lucky to make the squad without playing as the other fast bowlers were woeful. The 27- year old has a chance to prove his class.

Hafeez and Shoaib Malik: Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are playing their last World Cup and after missing the 2015 World Cup both will look to end on a high.

Finding the Right Combination:  The recent poor form of Pakistan means they were forced to make several last-minute changes to their World Cup squad. The team think tank faces the difficult combination of trying to figure out the best combination especially after their last practice match against Bangladesh was called off. Do they include the big hitter Asif Ali over the experienced Malik? Or Wahab or Amir start over the impressive Shaheen Afridi. These are the questions they must answer quickly.
