Indian Premier League: The Biggest Under-performers So far.

The Indian Premier League is going into decisive phases now with almost all the teams having played around 9-10 matches. There have been some outstanding performers but sadly for the teams there are some big names who have failed to justify their reputation. In this article we look at 5 big players who have so far flopped in the IPL 2019.

Manish Pandey:

Manish Pandey was signed by SRH for 11 Crore in the Auctions and the former KKR batsman was expected to solve their middle order issues. The middle order batsman had a below par last season but was expected to fire this season after a year of acclimatization. But sadly, for SRH, the 29-year old has failed to translate potential into performances. The Karnataka batsman has scored just 54 runs in 5 innings failing to score 20 even once. His average of 13.50 is the worst by an SRH batsman who has played more than 3 innings. Pandey has scored just 3 boundaries in 58 balls faced further highlighting his struggles.

Kuldeep Singh:

The Prodigy spinner has so far failed to perform according to his reputation and potential. The left arm spinner has been a big performer for the National cricket team since his debut, in fact no player has taken more wickets than his tally of 88 wickets. Sadly, for KKR Kuldeep has struggled for form he is supposed to be the main strike bowler, but he has neither taken wickets nor been able to contain runs. The 24- year old has taken just 4 wickets at a strike rate of 49.5, the worst by any KKR spinner and only Prasidh Krishna has a worst strike rate among KKR bowlers. The Chinamen bowler’s average of 71.50 is the worst by a spinner in IPL who has taken 3 or more wickets.

Shane Watson:

Shane Watson played a starring role scoring a century in the IPL 2018 final playing a big part in CSK’s comeback title. This year also the same was expected of the 37-year old but Watson has so far struggled to get going. The Australian has managed just 147 runs in 10 innings at an average of around 14, the lowest average by any team’s opening batsman who have played more than 3 innings so far. Instead of giving CSK a strong start for others to build upon, Watson has looked circumspect and unsure and has a strike rate of just 112.21. His poor form means CSK have the lowest run rate in the Powerplays in IPL 2019.

Jaydev Unadkat:

Jaydev Unadkat is another star player who has badly struggled for form so far and is having a forgettable IPL 2019. The 27-year old lauded as one of the best T20 bowlers due to his numerous varieties and accurate slower ones but Unadkat has been taken apart by the opposition batsmen. The RR left arm pacer has conceded at an economy of 11.08 which is one of the worst by any team’s premier fast bowler. Among bowlers to have bowled more than 10 overs only team-mate Ben Stokes has a higher economy rate in the current IPL. Unadkat has conceded at an economy of more than 10 in 4 out of his 7 matches, highlighting his struggles.

Umesh Yadav is another Indian fast bowler who has had a forgettable tournament so far. The 31-year old supposed to be leading the pace attack has let RCB down on many occasions in IPL 2019. The right arm pacer has taken just 4 wickets so far in 7 matches and has a terrible average of 60. In 4 of his last 5 matches he has failed to take a wicket and has conceded at an economy of above 10. In the last match against CSK he almost failed to defend 26 runs conceding 24 runs in the first 5 balls.
