Delhi Capitals:

SWOT Analysis:

Strengths Weaknesses

Explosive top-order: Return of Dhawan adds a lot of solidity for DC’s top-order along with the explosive openers Shaw and Munro.

Mixture of all-rounders: With inclusions Axar Patel, Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford with Chris Morris have strengthened DC’s lower middle order and can even give them a bowling option. Importantly they now have oversea allrounder as an option as well covered.

Spin heavy attack: With experienced Mishra and new kid on the block S Lamichhane, both can make life difficult for the opposition, they also have options  in the form of A Patel and Tewatia.

Over dependency on Pant and Iyer: DD scored 2250 runs in 2018 off the bat out of which 48.67 % of the runs were scored by Pant and Iyer.

Rishabh Pant

Contribution from overseas player: Contribution from Delhi’s overseas player has been an issue, 14 fifties were scored by Delhi players, but only 1 came from an overseas player.

Opportunities Threats

Iyer as a captain – S Iyer who took the charge as a captain scored 260 runs in 8 matches including 2 fifties last year. In those 8 matches Delhi won 4 matches. Now he has good opportunity to make the most as a full-time captain

Axar and Ishant to prove their worth – Axar had a poor 2018 IPL where he was able to pick up only 3 wickets. Since then he has lost his place in IND T20I squad as well, whereas Ishant will be playing in IPL after 2017 and will be eager to shed his only Test bowler tag.

Pace attack – With World cup year full time availability of International pacers are in doubt and if we remove Rabada, Boult and Morris. Pace attack looks slightly weak. Boult with 18 wickets was the leading wicket taker for Delhi in 2018, the second most wicket after him was H Patel with 7.

Combinations Right – Over the years we have seen Delhi has failed to get their combinations right as a result, there have been lots of changes in their lineup, hence they need to utilize their resources properly: Dhawan-Shaw or Dhawan-Munro etc.
