Mumbai Indians:

SWOT Analysis:

Strengths Weaknesses
Explosive top-order: With the addition of Quinton de Kock, MI’s top-order has become more attacking. Mumbai have in their ranks Rohit, Suryakumar, Pollard, Pandya brothers and De Kock who are all proven big hitters and match winners.

Bumrah: Mumbai are blessed to have Jasprit Bumrah in their ranks unarguably the best T20 bowler in the World who can knock the best batsman with his deadly Yorkers and clever change of pace.

Middle-order struggle: Last year, MI’s middle-order did not live up to the expectation which led to their many close defeats in 2018.

Lack of experience in spin department: Mayank, Rahul, Krunal, Anukul and Jayant are the main spinners of MI this season. However, apart from Krunal, they lack in experience in this department.

Opportunities Threats
Pollard and Yuvraj: Both Yuvraj and Pollard have become passengers to their respective teams they have played in the last 2-3 seasons. Pollard did not bowl throughout IPL 2018 and averaged below 20 with bat, while Yuvraj has been struggling with bat since 2015. This IPL will provide them with a good opportunity to restate their worth.

Reclaim Past Glories: Mumbai recently have hardly gone 2 seasons without making the play-offs, with their strong squad they will look to make the play-offs and prove their worth as one of the best teams of the IPL.

Rohit’s form: Rohit’s form with bat is crucial last IPL was his worst and it showed in the results, if Rohit fails again then Mumbai might struggle again.

Slow starts: MI are notoriously slow starters in the competition. Can they buck this trend this year?

Leg-spinners: Mayank and Rahul are the main leg-spinners this year for MI. Mayank showed his abilities in 2018 but was exposed after first-half of the season, while Chahar has the potential but has got the experience of only 3 IPL matches. Given how important leg spinners are in this format it is imperative for Mumbai that they come good.
